Some elements in this DEMO (played the Quest/apk version) are unique and captivating to experience in mixed reality. For example, implementing movement/navigation while stationary, seeing the room move with me in the virtual space, and the nice artistic blending of digital content with the seamless MR shift. I especially liked this last element. Although original, I'm not sure how impactful the real-world part is in elevating the entire experience. We'll have to wait for the full release.
Part of me was excited experiencing something like that for the first time, but I'm not sure how it will hold up for an entire experience. I'm more interested in having technologies that enable scene understanding and real-time integration of physical-to-digital content to enhance the experience. Imagine the possibilities of using virtual elements to truly affect the physical world and play with the mind, rather than just having it there as a partial background with some limited interaction/presentation.
I've seen things like that work as Instagram filters (e.g., replacing humans with cars). I'm sure we're not far away from having these fundamental features alongside advanced AI to truly make mixed reality apps something different and open the door for a whole new world of mind-bending experiences. Still, I liked the original approach and can't wait to see what comes next.
Note: I did experience quite significant performance issue with the .apk (Quest) version on the Quest 3. But again, it was the demo and the app lab version based on what I understand comes later this year (2024), I will check it out again.
