Listing page guidelines
Top tips and best practices to help you create an awesome SideQuest listing for your app.
SideQuest listings
To show you're serious about how you present and promote your app, there are several steps you can take to make your listing stand out from the crowd and get more attention.
Including eye-catching artwork, high-quality screenshots, a detailed description, and an engaging trailer for your game are the best ways to make an impact. Great artwork will also increase your app's chances of being selected for a free homepage feature by the SideQuest team. This can have a massive impact on your app's discoverability, so quality artwork is a must!
To create a new listing, or manage an existing one, you can head to our Developer Portal.
Go to Developer PortalThe following guide will be useful if you want to use the old app manager system. Just click the Manage button at the top of your listing page.
Listing info
App details

Here is where all of your basic app information lives! It's vital for telling users everything they need to know about your app.
You'll need to add a title, summary line (telling them about your app in one sentence), and a longer app description. You can also format your app description and add more structure by using a flavour of Github markdown.
The Version Code lets you trigger automatic updates for any users who have downloaded your app. If you increase the value of that code, users will get a notification in their dashboard telling them an update is ready to install.
Adding search tags will make it easier for users to find your app on SideQuest by adding it to the relevant categories in our library. For example, if you've made a multiplayer shooting game, you'll want to add the tags: 'Multiplayer' and 'Shooter'.
Finish up this section by choosing which devices support your app, your app license, the comfort levels, and whether it's a seated or standing experience.
Download & Other Urls

This section is where you'll need to add a suitable download option(s) for your users.
You can either host your app directly with SideQuest, or you can redirect your users to a third party link for install or purchase.
SideQuest: Select 'add' under 'Download Urls' and choose your file
GitHub Releases: Add your link under the 'Integrations' tab
Meta: Add your link under the 'Integrations' tab
itch.io: Select itch.io under 'Donate Urls'
We'd recommend hosting on a CDN server like Discord or SideQuest, but you can DropBox too — just remember to change the end of the link from 'dl=0' to 'dl=1', to make it a direct download.
Please note: Google Drive, SharePoint, and Unity Cloud Storage are not currently supported.
Add your social media channels
It's a great idea to add links to your socials (if you have them) in this section to help your users connect with you for updates about your app. It's as easy as clicking 'add' and pasting your social links!
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
SEO is all about pushing your listing as high up the results pages of search engines as possible. Google is the most important one. While simply listing on SideQuest will help a lot here as we tend to rank well, there are a few ways to help your app climb higher and get more clicks.
Valuable app description and images
You listing should include relevant images and trailers alongside a description providing your app's key information in a human way. Above all, make it valuable for the visitor. Don't worry about making it witty or clever — if in doubt, keep it simple.
Keywords
Keywords are important to help you rank in searches, and the secret is including the right keywords in a natural way. If you've made a horror app based on ghosts, you might write: "In this horror experience, you'll explore a castle haunted by ghosts, spirits, and other deadly dangers." Keep it simple.
Tags
You can add tags to help users find your game on SideQuest and place it in the right categories. But, they're also important outside of SideQuest, as our category tags rank well within search engines.
Social Media and blogs
Writing informative social posts, getting them shared, and having your app included in blog articles (or writing your own, if you have a blog!) will boost SEO rankings over time. This is a marathon, not a sprint, so don't spam your app all over the internet. Take your time and post regularly.
Artwork
Listing artwork
Your listing artwork is the most important image on your listing as it will be shown in the SideQuest library, homepage, and category pages. Basically, it helps your audience quickly recongnise your app. Keep the design simple yet distinct to ensure it stands out from the crowd and draws people in!
Suggested size
At least 1024px x 576px
16:9 aspect ratio
Suggested file format
Transparent png or SVG
Background image
A great background image sets the tone for your app listing and tells your audience what to expect from your app at a glance.
You can add more detail to this image, but don't include any text or logos in here.
Suggested size
At least 1920px x 1080px
16:9 aspect ratio
Suggested file format
jpg, png
Screenshots
Ideally, you'll include between 3-6 screenshots of your app in-use. These can be captured from gameplay, cutscenes, or everyday use if your app is not a game.
For best results, you should ensure your screenshots give users an authentic look at your app — this will help them decide to download it! If you choose to include a gameplay video, this will occupy the first slot in the gallery, with your chosen screenshots presented in order after that.
Suggested size
At least 1024px x 576px
16:9 aspect ratio
Suggested file format
jpg, png
Video

If a picture's worth 1,000 words, then a video is worth more like 1 million!
Videos and trailers are the best way to show off your app in action, attract attention, and persuade your users to download your creation!
Suggested size
16:9 aspect ratio
Suggested file format
AVI, Mov
Early access
Invite keys

SideQuest is the perfect place to test your ideas and get valuable feedback from users. To help, our early access system gives you total control over how and when your users can see your listing and download your app.
You can select 'Invite Only' to enable key distribution to control who can see your listing — you choose who receives the keys and only key holders will be allowed in. And if you want to limit access to a specific timeframe, you can revoke key access at any time.
Key distribution pairs perfectly with in-app expiry methods to give you complete control over access to your app.
On Request

Choosing to grant access to your app 'On Request' allows users to ask you directly for access through your listing. They'll be notified when you accept or decline their access request.
You can also link two app listings together if you want to conduct some A/B testing and decide which users get to see which app.
Settings and integrations
Meta Store integration

Enabling Meta Quest integration will give your app first-party benefits on Quest headsets. To enable this integration, open the 'Integrations' tab in your App Manager and toggle the Meta Quest switch, then paste your App Lab URL into the space provided and click save to finish.
Github integration

You can also integrate your listing with Github Releases. Combined with a webhook setup, you can then publish your listing to Github Releases, which will automatically update your listing with the new download URL and invrement the version code to trigger update notifications for your users. Handy stuff!
Github release & CI/CDPromoting your app
Features

Promoting your app can have a huge impact on its discoverability — and how many people download it! The best way to promote your app is to have it featured, and you can achieve this in one of two ways.
Staff Pick: Staff Picks are selected at our discretion, but, if your app is chosen, it can massively boost your engagement metrics. To give your app the best chance of being selected, ensure your app listing is the best it can be. That means making sure the artwork is top-notch, providing a detailed description, and including a trailer is a great idea, too! We'll send you an email if your app is featured and we'll also shout about it on our social channels.
Paid Feature: This is the best way to ensure your app gets seen on SideQuest! Paying to have your app featured in a prime position on our homepage gives you full control over when and how your app is promoted — and, when you pay for a feature, your app will always be shown first. Visit our promotion system to set up a featured advertisement.
Danger zone
Watch your step here!

Here you'll find more extreme options like duplicating, unpublishing, or even deleting your app listing.
Be careful where you click in this section, as some of these actions are irreversible!
