when i downloaded the bmbf and ran the setup, it wouldnt allow me to download songs. said that I didnt have a core mod, however it says the mod is automatically installed.

I have got the same issue. it doesn't install the core mods.. I dont know how to get them. let me know if you found the answer.

Yes that is true, BMBF does not come with Core Mods so do get it do work with mods you have to downgrade your Beat Saber to the latest version the works with BMBF: 1.17.1
