Shadow VR is our first app for virtual reality headsets. Just like we have an app for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS, we now have one for Oculus Quest. It allows you to play PCVR games from SteamVR® on an Oculus Quest, without going through a VR-ready PC, wires, or base stations.

Important notes: You will need an active Shadow account to enjoy this app. If you don't have one yet and are desperate for the cheapest VR-ready PC on the market, join us on shadow.tech. A fiber connection hitting at least 50Mbps in download speed and a ping of less than 20ms is recommended. This app is compatible with both Quest 1 & Quest 2.

HOW TO GET STARTED: Before jumping in, make sure that your setup meets the minimum requirements

• an active Shadow subscription
• a stable (fiber) internet connection for Shadow (Over 50Mbps & Under 20ms ping)
• 5Ghz Wi-Fi
• a Steam® Account

Guided Step-by-Step Tutorial

• Install Shadow VR from SideQuest on your Oculus Quest.
• Download Steam® and install SteamVR® on your Shadow PC (and use the option"Remember my password" on Steam®).
• Execute the first launch of SteamVR® on your Shadow PC from any 2D client (desktop, mobile, Shadow Ghost, Shadow Box, etc.) to go through all potential updates and pop-ups and then close SteamVR®.
• Activate “login without password” on the Windows session of your Shadow PC. Follow the How-To from PCWorld to set it up. If you don't have a Windows user password on your Shadow PC, you can ignore this step.
• Launch the Shadow VR app from the « Unknown Sources » apps of your Oculus Quest.
• Follow the prompt and login through a trusted web browser.
• Enjoy your first steps in Shadow VR.

💡 Tips:

• Once you have launched SteamVR® in a client you can do everything from the Quest app without ever needing another client!
• Use the official version of the desktop clients to be able to switch from your desktop apps to Shadow VR without environment updates.

Application shortcuts:

• Long press on Option button (left controller) brings you back to the Shadow launcher.
• Press 4 times on the Oculus button (right controller) when you are somehow stuck (Hard Exit). It will save you from having to restart your Oculus Quest!
