Iron Guard VR is an amazing tower defense game. It's more of a hybrid one as it combines both tower defense mechanics and shooter mechanics.
Players can shoot using a ship attached to their hand while also positioning defense units to protect their base from attacking units.
The game takes place in a mid-sized area where enemies can attack from various directions. This leads to frantic 360-degree action where players need to decide where to position themselves and their units as well. Units can be demolished and upgraded.
I have to be frank here. Although there is an unlockable unit upgrade and a skill tree, I really wanted to have many more unit variations and maybe some of them drop as you play. Just to get excited about what you might get next.
So because of that, the gameplay does feel limited and grindy in that aspect, but not to the extent that it led me to not enjoy it. I just felt that it could be better and more exciting with more units and some RNG drop features. Also, some of the levels felt a bit too "stretchy." I would have preferred better emphasis on strategic unit selection (from a large selection). The added shooting mechanic was a fantastic choice though, so well done there.
Putting my personal wishes aside, it's still one of the better tower defense games that I've played.
Still, a very well-made VR tower defense game with unique and exciting map designs, exciting gameplay, and easy controls. Bottom line: highly recommended.
