Does the developer have enemies or something? I can't think of why there would be such a low rating because this was one of the most fun driving/racing games I've yet to play in VR despite it being barebones.
First, I really appreciate the inspiration taken from Hard Drivin', one of my favorite games of all time (yes, even the Genesis version!). Second, this game finally nails the way a virtual steering wheel should feel. Most of them only attach to one hand, but this one actually attaches to both hands and also shows you where your virtual hands are on the wheel... it just feels "right". Then I tried playing with just the thumbstick since that's the tried and true gamer way, and I was able to do extremely well that way also! Placed 8th on the leaderboard! Both ways felt as they should!
The physics are arcadey but in a predictable and fun way. Drifting is encouraged, and it's surprisingly easy and fun to pull off without ever feeling like the game is doing it for you. There's only one course, but just like in Hard Drivin', there are two different routes including stunts and such. Getting to race your ghost is also pretty awesome and keeps you wanting just one more lap!
As for suggestions, there's the obvious "more content", but two things I'd love to see would be for the rearview mirrors to be actual mirrors and not just 2D projections... I know that's more resources, but in the few games I've seen that do this, the difference in immersion is way more extreme than you'd expect. Second, although I love simplistic and flat-shaded graphics, this really needs a subtle texture on the road and ground so that there's a sense of movement... as it is, sometimes it's hard to really "lock-in" on how you're moving in the world because your eyes don't have enough to lock onto.
So yeah, this is amazing and free and you need to try it!!
