First of all, and it's important, Aqua Glide is currently in APP LAB as of the time of playing and reviewing it and still in development.
The game feels far from being completed. There are quite a lot of issues, including the controls (how do you make a sharp carving turn?), and the racing feels unexciting, possibly due to the wide area and improper spread and variety of power-ups that allow you to gain higher momentum and keep up if you miss one. Hands don't stay on the wheel, competing against AI feels linear and unexciting, the route is confusing, the jet ski suddenly lifs up for no reason, the in-race UI feels poorly designed when it appears, sound effects can be improved, characters are stiff, player names appear wrongly positioned when viewed from behind, mirrors don't show anything, and more.
The game needs more work, and I have to admit that I expected more. My craving for a great jet ski racing game still holds strong. I think that having smaller tracks, more power-ups, the option to collide with others (currently, you just pass through AI opponents), and more exciting arcade elements can turn this into a fantastic game. Adding options for ramps to help maintain pace and other features would also be beneficial.
These elements are present in many other arcade racing games. The formula that works is there; it just needs to be adapted and combined with some original elements to make it a great, fun jet ski racing game in VR. I hope that future updates will turn it into a great game.
Some of the maps are really beautiful, especially that of the sunset, though and I like the dynamics of the big dinosaur (more of that please).
As of the time of writing, all I can do is provide feedback with the hope for good updates in the future. The game is still in the App Lab version and in development. Even the game itself states that the tutorial is not complete. I hope this feedback reaches the developer to help make the game better. Thanks for reading.
