Kaiju Battle Simulator is exactly what the game's name suggests: it allows you to orchestrate a Kaiju battle in a small city arena. The premise of this game is great – a physics-based combat system where you can cut off monsters' hands and heads with your own hands or weapons, grab them, throw them, and generally toy around with them to feel all-powerful.

There are quite a few positive aspects to this early access game. The physics (including the ragdoll animations) are nicely done, and the combat feels punchy. You can climb and break buildings, spawn numerous enemies, experiment with different weapon loadouts, and more.

The only realistically rendered part is the gums and teeth of one of the Kaijus, which is cool when you fight them up close. However, this detail made me wish the entire game had a more realistic visual style rather than its current low-poly aesthetic.

Unfortunately, many aspects of the game are poorly implemented. These include a cumbersome UI and floaty, slow-motion combat. While the slow-motion could be nice at certain points to create a cinematic feel, it ultimately makes the combat feel unchallenging, even in the slightest. Enemies pose virtually no threat, and I longed for a greater sense of challenge.

I desired the ability to jump and smash enemies from the tops of buildings, explosions that felt more destructive, and more compelling visual and sound effects to enhance the experience.

So, despite its unique and interesting premise of physical combat, the game still feels like it's far to being fully realized. However, I can tell you one thing: if a game like this manages to get everything right, it could become one hell of a terrific Kaiju game to play, especially in VR. Personally, I would prefer it on PC with realistic visuals, but it could still work well even without that.

Therefore, I would say that I can only recommend it to dedicated Kaiju fans at the moment. It is important to remember that this is an early access game at the time of this review.
