This virtual reality experience explores the Trial of the Islandmagee Witches in 1711, the last witchcraft trial to take place on the island of Ireland. Demonised first provides a ‘training room’ to introduce the user to the story behind the trial, and then transports the user to the ‘Witches Stone’ at Islandmagee to experience being possessed and bewitched.

Demonised: Bewitched and Possessed, has been produced in collaboration between researchers at Ulster University and Belfast-based VR and AR software development company Immersonal.

Creating a virtual reality experiment of narrative that operates at the intersection of history, technology and interpretation, this VR experience brings to life the hidden history of Ireland's last witch trial using new technologies and innovative immersive approaches.
