Notes about this App:
Origin
Quarantine Quest is a prototype app produced from the VR Hackathon 2020 from Sept 10-Sept 16. It won 2nd place. The Hackathon was a completely virtual event, with participants from all around the world. The main theme of the Hackathon was "touch-free solutions for a post-pandemic world", leveraging the hand tracking feature of the Oculus Quest that enables interacting in VR without physical controllers. Our team wanted to address the importance of educating people about COVID-19 hygiene and integrating accessibility needs in a touch-free world. To do this, we crafted our ideas around excitement, gamification, and pleasing design. Our final product? An escape room! Please provide our team feedback by commenting in SideQuest-- highly appreciated.
Judging Criteria
- Innovativeness: How original is it? Does it demonstrate new uses for hand tracking?
- Feasibility: Is the concept market-ready within 2-3 years?
- User experience: Is the implementation satisfying to use? Does it work?
- Accessibility: Is there evidence of inclusive design considerations in the concept?

Future Work
The combination of working across different time zones and having full-time jobs/committments were just some of the challenges we faced, but we loved our experience and are proud of our achievement. For future development we would like to add the following features:
- Increase accessibility by including personalized hands, color blindness options, subtitles
- Get feedback from user testing sessions from all population demographics to cater to those with accessibility needs
- Hand Physics Lab elements, hand-object feedback mechanisms, and locomotion, data tracking and assessments
- More puzzles and rooms
